Welcome back to your weekly bug bite forecast for Ontario, covering August 15, 2026. This week, we’re unfortunately hoisting a big red flag as the overall risk for bug bites across the province is high. Ontario has experienced an incredibly wet summer, with a staggering 101mm of rain falling compared to a mere 29mm during the same period last year, leading to an unusually widespread proliferation of standing water and prime breeding grounds for our buzzing friends. This persistent moisture has set the stage for a particularly active week for most biting insects.

Up in Northwest Ontario, expect warm and humid conditions to keep mosquitoes and black flies extremely active, especially near any remaining puddles and wooded areas. Thunder Bay and areas north will be prime targets for their relentless pursuits.

Northeast Ontario will also see plenty of bug activity, with continued warmth and scattered showers maintaining ideal conditions for mosquitoes and deer flies. Cottage country around Sudbury and Algonquin will likely be buzzing with these unwelcome guests.

Down in Southwest Ontario, the lingering humidity and recent rainfall will ensure that mosquitoes remain a significant nuisance, particularly in urban green spaces and around agricultural areas. Those enjoying the lakes and trails near London and Windsor should be prepared.

Finally, Southeast Ontario, including the GTA and Ottawa Valley, will face a similar onslaught with high mosquito activity, especially during dawn and dusk, thanks to the persistent dampness. Remember, if you do get bitten, Just Bite Me temporary bug bite relief is readily available at retailers across Ontario to help soothe those itchy spots.
