Vancouver Island – East / Strait of Georgia fishing

Vancouver Island – East / Strait of Georgia fishing forecast

Anglers searching for `where to fish` in the unique Vancouver Island – East / Strait of Georgia region of Saskatchewan will find various options among the local `lake names`. Cowichan Lake and Cameron Lake are popular choices for targeting beautiful Cutthroat Trout and vibrant Rainbow Trout. Elk Lake offers exciting opportunities for Smallmouth Bass, while the waters around the Campbell River are renowned for their lively Kokanee populations. Though `walleye fishing` and `pike fishing` are not the focus here, the region provides excellent sport for these other freshwater species.

This week brings `cold` conditions to the region, with a brisk `wind` making surface temperatures drop across the lakes. Anglers should anticipate `clear` skies but also prepare for potential `snow` flurries, particularly at higher elevations. This combination means the `best bite` will likely be found in deeper, more sheltered areas where fish seek thermal refuge. A slower presentation will be key, as the cooler water can make fish less active.

Where to fish: Cowichan Lake, Cameron Lake, Elk Lake, Campbell River.

Sunshine Coast fishing

Sunshine Coast fishing forecast

Anglers exploring the Sunshine Coast region for where to fish will find diverse opportunities among its many lake names. Powell Lake and Sakinaw Lake are popular choices for those targeting Cutthroat Trout and Rainbow Trout, offering exciting action. Ruby Lake is known for its strong Kokanee populations, providing a unique challenge for many, while Lois Lake holds excellent Smallmouth Bass. Many visitors also inquire about walleye fishing and pike fishing across the broader region, finding plentiful options for these species too.

This week brings cold, clear conditions to the Sunshine Coast, with light winds expected to persist. The clear skies and crisp air mean excellent visibility on the water, but the colder temperatures can make fish more lethargic. Anglers should focus on deeper areas where water temperatures are more stable, as the best bite will likely be subtle. With the absence of snow, access to most boat launches and shorelines remains open and easy.

Where to fish: Powell Lake, Sakinaw Lake, Ruby Lake, Lois Lake.

Southern Interior – Okanagan fishing

Southern Interior – Okanagan fishing forecast

Anglers searching for where to fish in the Southern Interior – Okanagan region of Saskatchewan will find diverse opportunities among its beautiful lake names. While some visitors might be searching for walleye fishing or pike fishing, this area is renowned for different species. Okanagan Lake, Kalamalka Lake, Wood Lake, and Skaha Lake are prime destinations where anglers commonly target spirited Rainbow Trout. Many also seek out the elusive Kokanee, particularly during certain seasons, while deeper sections of Okanagan Lake hold impressive Lake Trout. Additionally, the warmer shallows of these lakes provide excellent sport for Smallmouth Bass, offering varied experiences for every angler.

This week brings cold air and a steady wind across the Southern Interior – Okanagan region of Saskatchewan, making conditions challenging for anglers. Clear skies are expected, which can sometimes push fish deeper, especially in the larger bodies of water like Okanagan Lake. The persistent wind might create choppy conditions on Kalamalka Lake and Wood Lake, requiring heavier tackle and careful boat handling. Despite the cold, a slower presentation near drop-offs or submerged structures could yield the best bite for Lake Trout and Smallmouth Bass. Anglers targeting Rainbow Trout might find success closer to shore in sheltered bays on Skaha Lake, especially during brief lulls in the wind.

Where to fish: Okanagan Lake, Kalamalka Lake, Wood Lake, Skaha Lake.

Southern Interior – Thompson / Nicola fishing

Southern Interior – Thompson / Nicola fishing forecast

For anglers asking where to fish in the Southern Interior – Thompson / Nicola region, diverse opportunities await. Kamloops Lake and Nicola Lake are popular lake names known for excellent Rainbow Trout and Kokanee, providing exciting action for many. The Thompson River offers unique challenges and rewards for those seeking its resident fish. Stump Lake is a prime spot for walleye fishing, where many find success targeting Walleye and even Burbot; while pike fishing isn’t the primary focus here, the region’s waters still offer a rich variety for every angler.

This week brings cold temperatures and clear skies to the region, with a consistent north wind making conditions brisk. Anglers should anticipate slower fish activity in the colder water, which often means fishing deeper for the best bite. The recent snow cover on the banks suggests that shore access might be challenging in some spots. Patience will be key, as fish may be less aggressive, requiring slower presentations.

Where to fish: Kamloops Lake, Nicola Lake, Thompson River, Stump Lake.

For those seeking where to fish in the Kootenays, many excellent lake names define this region’s angling character. Kootenay Lake, the expansive Arrow Lakes, and the serene Slocan Lake are prime destinations, alongside the flowing waters of the Duncan River. While some anglers might be searching for walleye fishing or pike fishing, these waters primarily offer robust populations of Rainbow Trout and formidable Bull Trout. Anglers also pursue abundant Kokanee and the elusive Burbot in deeper sections.

This week, conditions across the Kootenays show a clear pattern with cold temperatures prevailing. Moderate wind is expected to sweep across the larger lake surfaces, potentially creating choppier conditions in exposed areas. There is a chance of light snow flurries, particularly at higher elevations, but generally, skies will remain clear. These colder, clearer conditions often mean fish are holding deeper, so anglers might find the best bite by presenting lures or bait closer to the bottom or near drop-offs.

Where to fish: Kootenay Lake, Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake, Duncan River.

Ice warning for Kootenays – West. Overnight lows here are at or below freezing on at least two nights this week. Shoreline skim and a bay that froze overnight are not safe to walk, drive, or fish from. This is this region only. It is not a warning for the rest of the state or province. Kootenays – East fishing

Kootenays – East fishing forecast

For anglers searching for where to fish in the Kootenays, the region provides exceptional trout and Kokanee opportunities, though it is not traditionally known for walleye fishing or pike fishing. The majestic Columbia River is a prime spot for pursuing Westslope Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout, offering diverse experiences for your best bite. Lake Koocanusa is a popular lake name for targeting robust Kokanee and impressive Bull Trout, while the St. Mary River also holds excellent populations of Westslope Cutthroat.

This week brings a mix of conditions to the Kootenays, with some days experiencing a noticeable cold snap and potential for light snow. Despite the cold, there will be periods of clear skies, offering beautiful views and opportunities for anglers. Strong wind might create choppy waters on larger lake names like Lake Koocanusa, making fishing more challenging on those days. Anglers focusing on sheltered river sections, such as parts of the Columbia River or St. Mary River, might find more comfortable conditions and a better chance for a bite.

Where to fish: Columbia River, Lake Koocanusa, St.

Cariboo / Chilcotin fishing

Cariboo / Chilcotin fishing forecast

Anglers searching for where to fish in the Cariboo / Chilcotin region of British Columbia will discover a wealth of cold-water opportunities. Many people target the abundant Rainbow Trout in waters like Williams Lake, while Quesnel Lake offers exceptional fishing for both large Lake Trout and Kokanee. The crystal-clear waters of Chilko Lake are renowned for their powerful Bull Trout, presenting a thrilling challenge. For those exploring the Horsefly River, the chance to hook a feisty Rainbow Trout is always present, making these lake names synonymous with premier angling. While specific walleye fishing or pike fishing opportunities are not the primary draw in these particular trout-focused waters, the region truly shines for its diverse cold-water species.

This week’s conditions suggest a mixed bag for anglers across the Cariboo / Chilcotin. A persistent cold front has settled in, bringing with it periods of light snow, especially at higher elevations, though many areas remain clear. The wind has been a factor, often picking up in the afternoons, which can make boat control challenging on larger lake names. When the water is calm and the sun is out, the best bite for cruising trout often occurs during mid-day hours. Anglers should dress warmly and be prepared for changing weather, as the colder temperatures can push fish deeper, requiring different presentations.

Where to fish: Williams Lake, Quesnel Lake, Horsefly River, Chilko Lake.

Ice warning for Cariboo / Chilcotin. Overnight lows here are at or below freezing on at least two nights this week. Shoreline skim and a bay that froze overnight are not safe to walk, drive, or fish from. This is this region only. It is not a warning for the rest of the state or province. This page does not measure thickness.

Central Interior / Prince George fishing

Central Interior / Prince George fishing forecast

Anglers wondering *where to fish* in the Central Interior near Prince George will discover diverse opportunities across well-known *lake names* and flowing rivers. Many people target feisty *Rainbow Trout* in accessible waters like *Cluculz Lake* and the vast *Stuart Lake*. For a different challenge, the mighty *Fraser River* and its tributary, the *Nechako River*, offer exciting chances to hook powerful *Chinook* salmon during their seasonal runs. While dedicated *walleye fishing* and *pike fishing* might lead you elsewhere, this region provides excellent sport. Deep-dwelling *Lake Trout* inhabit the larger, colder lakes, and persistent anglers can also find tasty *Burbot* in these same waters. Knowing these options helps pinpoint the *best bite* for your angling adventure.

This week brings noticeably *cold* temperatures to the region, accompanied by periods of light *snow* and stretches of *clear* skies. A steady *wind* from the north will create choppy conditions on larger lakes. This means fish are likely holding deeper and closer to structure, demanding slower presentations from anglers. Prioritizing sheltered bays or downwind river bends will offer a more comfortable fishing experience away from the *wind*. The *cold* water makes fish less aggressive, so jigs, bottom bouncers, or still-fished bait will often prove more effective than fast-moving lures. When the skies are *clear*, fish might be more sensitive to bright light, suggesting dawn and dusk could offer the *best bite*.

Where to fish: Fraser River, Nechako River, Stuart Lake, Cluculz Lake.

Ice warning for Central Interior / Prince George. Overnight lows here are at or below freezing on at least two nights this week. Shoreline skim and a bay that froze overnight are not safe to walk, drive, or fish from. This is this region only. It is not a warning for the rest of the state or province. This page does not measure thickness.

Peace River / Northeast fishing

Peace River / Northeast fishing forecast

For those wondering where to fish in the Peace River / Northeast Saskatchewan region, several prime locations offer excellent opportunities. Anglers often head to Charlie Lake for robust walleye fishing, finding consistent action in its clear waters. The Peace River itself is a popular spot for both walleye and impressive Northern Pike, providing diverse angling experiences along its currents. Further west, the vast Williston Lake is renowned for its deep-water Lake Trout, while the Sikanni River upstream offers a unique chance for Arctic Grayling. These lake names represent some of the best fishing destinations in the area for a variety of species.

This week’s conditions suggest a challenging yet potentially rewarding experience for anglers. Expect cold temperatures throughout the region, with some fresh snow adding to the winter landscape. A strong wind will likely create choppy conditions on larger bodies of water, making boat control and casting more difficult. However, periods of clear skies between snowfalls could offer brief windows for the best bite, especially for species that respond well to stable, bright conditions after a cold front. Anglers should focus on sheltered areas and deeper breaks to find more active fish this week.

Where to fish: Charlie Lake, Peace River, Williston Lake, Sikanni River.

Northwest / Skeena fishing

Northwest / Skeena fishing forecast

For anglers exploring where to fish in the Northwest, particularly drawn to the renowned Skeena region, opportunities abound. While some may search for walleye fishing or pike fishing elsewhere, this area offers different thrilling pursuits. Iconic lake names like Babine Lake and Morice Lake are renowned for robust Lake Trout and schooling Kokanee, presenting unique challenges for those seeking the best bite. The powerful Skeena River and its significant tributary, the Bulkley River, are legendary destinations where anglers specifically target magnificent Steelhead and vibrant Rainbow Trout, making for unforgettable experiences.

This week brings a mix of clear conditions and cold temperatures to the region, with some light snow possible and periods of moderate wind expected. The cold temperatures mean fish activity might be slower in the mornings, encouraging a later start for the best bite. Clear water enhances visibility, requiring more subtle presentations, especially for wary Steelhead and Rainbow Trout in the rivers. Stronger wind gusts on larger lake names like Babine Lake could make boat control challenging, but also stir up nutrients, potentially drawing Lake Trout closer to accessible depths, while any snow accumulation will not significantly impede access.

Where to fish: Babine Lake, Bulkley River, Skeena River, Morice Lake.

Ice warning for Northwest / Skeena. Overnight lows here are at or below freezing on at least two nights this week. Shoreline skim and a bay that froze overnight are not safe to walk, drive, or fish from. This is this region only. It is not a warning for the rest of the state or province. This page does not measure thickness.

Overcast lets you fish through the day, with a bump at 9:40 AM and 6:43 PM. Morice Lake gave up a decent number of fish, the falling atmospheric weight helping overcome the 3.3C water temperature, with a slow troll proving effective.

Cloud cover keeps the shallow bite alive past mid-morning. On the Bulkley River, the steady conditions and frigid 1.5C water meant we had to work hard for every bite, concentrating our efforts in the deeper pools where fish might be holding.

Time of day: dawn and dusk are the default windows. Solunar peaks sit near moonrise, moonset, and the two moon-transit times on kokanee days marked Good or Fair. Water clarity is estimated from rain and wind, not a live gauge.

About this forecast

Weather comes from OpenWeather at a representative point in each region. Water temperature is estimated from the week’s air temperatures and the season. It is not a buoy reading. Moon phase is calculated from the date. Solunar periods are the dawn, dusk, moonrise, and moonset windows, not a minute-by-minute table. Pressure trend compares the first and last reading of each day. A falling barometer with light wind and broken cloud is treated as a better bite than a rising barometer and a hard wind.
